The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 5/29/07

Canadian child swims while poorly educated child (top left) drowns

-Seems a little harsh-
Zheng Xiaoyu, China's former top drug regulator, has been sentenced to death. "The developments are among the most dramatic steps Beijing has publicly taken to address domestic and international alarm over shoddy and unsafe Chinese goods -- from pet food ingredients and toothpaste mixed with industrial chemicals to tainted antibiotics," the report reads. Contrast this with the US, where if you're a corrupt public official, the executive branch will insist you're a freakin' hero to the nation. Between China's solution and the Bush administration's, I say we shoot for someplace in the middle. (AP)

-"Let me put that another way..."-
TV director Mike Figgis was detained for five hours in an interrogation cell after he arrived at LAX. The reason was a poorly phrased answer to a question. When Los Angeles immigration officials asked him the purpose of his visit to LA , he answered, "I'm here to shoot a pilot." You'd kind of think that people working at LAX would be familiar with the term. (The Observer)

-Headline of the day-
"New poll reveals Canadian parents believe teaching their kids to swim is the best way to prevent drowning." It turns out that teaching them to breath underwater doesn't work as well as you'd think... (CNW Telbec)
