Sen. Craig, day 2: Still not gay
-In the "I'm not gay" business for years-
Not Gay Idaho Sen. Larry Craig turns out to have a history of not being gay. On May 14 of this year, Craig told the Idaho Statesman that he wasn't gay. Before that, Craig denied he was gay in relation to a congressional page scandal in 1982. In college (where he was known as "Mother Craig"), he was not gay, despite a girlfriend's assertion that he hadn't "ever held my hand. He was into the gotta-hold-the-door-for-the-woman sort of thing. But I always felt like I was an accessory. I might as well have been his briefcase."
At a certain point, it seems to me that it'd just be easier to admit you're gay than to keep hammering nails in that closet door. The desperation here would be sad as hell, but Craig's record of hypocrisy renders all the schadenfreude justifiable. If he hadn't tried to jam all gays back in the closet with him, he could've had a healthy relationship and a decent life, instead of hooking up with other closet cases in the occassional mens room. The life of lies he led was the life he would've had all gays live. Republican Sen. Larry Craig hung himself on his own rope and no one deserves that ironic justice more. (Idaho Statesman)
-How do we know he's not going to blow it on crystal meth?-
Another person famous for not being gay is also in the news. Former Colorado megachurch pastor, methamphetamine enthusiast, star of Jesus Camp, and fabulously heterosexual ex-gay success story Ted Haggard has sent an email to his supporters (apparently, everyone has supporters) hitting them up for money. Haggard wants two years of support for himself and long-suffering
Bad for them -- the address you're supposed to send the money to belongs to a "defunct charity" run by a convicted sex offender in Hawaii. Man, that reparative therapy sure works wonders, doesn't it? (Christianity Today)
-The mugshot is everything-
Jose A. Cornejo was arrested in Framinham, MA after a fight at a local restaurant. Really, there's nothing to this story other than what may be the worst mugshot photo in the history of criminal investigation:
I think he might've had a condition that's clinically referred to as "being totally hammered." At least they didn't catch him in mid-blink... (MetroWest Daily News)
