The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 1/22/08

Fred Thompson
Mr. Excitement

-We hardly knew ye-
It was announced today that Republican presidential contender Fred Thompson had formally dropped out of the race. According to the report, "The decision came after Mr. Thompson's third-place primary showing on Saturday in South Carolina, a state he had once hoped to win, instead underscored the weakness of his campaign."

Given this historic end to a historic campaign, I thought we'd go back and revisit the most memorable moments in Fred's campaign.

There was... Umm... Uhh... Hrrmmm... He said... Uhhh... I think he took a nap once...

Wait! Remember when he was on Law & Order? That was awesome... (NYT)

-"Why, hello you urban youth"-
Attending a King Holiday parade in Jacksonville, FL, Mitt Romney found himself surrounded by a largely black crowd. He took advantage of the situation to take a photo op with a "group of young people." At this point, Romney -- who, as a Mormon, may very well be the most whitebread candidate in the entire '08 campaign -- decided to demonstrate that he was down with the street lingo and hip to all the rad stuff the kids these days get all groovy with, yo.

"Who let the dogs out?" Mitt asked. "Who! Who!"

Word... (CBS News, which has video)

-Headline of the day-
"Speaking of dumb Mars claims..."

A japanese blogger claims to have photographic proof of bigfoot -- on Mars. Ol' Bigsquatch sure gets around... (Bad Astronomy Blog)
