The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 3/28/08

Mamma Mia Pizza Beer
Can you get it in sausage and pepperoni?

-A bottle of slice-
Came across this in the business section of my paper last night. It sounds... um... interesting. Some people like pizza and a beer and some people don't have that kind of time. Leaping into this very tight niche market is microbrewery Sprecher, a homebrewer named Tom Seefurth, and a brew named "Mamma Mia Pizza Beer."

According to the report, MMPB is a "specialty ale flavored with tomatoes, basil, oregano and other spices." The ingredients posed a unique problem for Sprecher, says vice president Jeff Hamilton. The first batch was so dense with vegetable matter that it clogged up equipment.

"Frankly, I've never seen that kind of leafy stuff put in there," he said.

If you want to try Mamma Mia Pizza Beer, you'll have to travel to the Madison, WI area where -- apparently -- we'll drink anything with alcohol in it. If you don't want to try it, I think I can understand... (The Capital Times)

-Headline of the day-
"DEA losing more guns, fewer laptops."

Hey, you win some, you lose some. Good to know all those missing laptops are off the streets. (AP)

-Bonus HotD-
"Squid beaks may have medical application."

And everyone made fun of me for keeping piles of squid beaks in my garage. (AP)

-Nifty-
Ever wanted to drive to Paris, Cairo, Moscow, or Beijing? C'mon, who hasn't? You may have the chance in your lifetime. It turns out that Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has fueled speculation of a Russia/American tunnel under the 55-mile Bering Strait with a purchase of a drill bit.

This isn't just any old drill bit, this is a $160 million bit that's "capable of boring a four-lane tunnel." In addition to the purchase of said hardware, Vladimir Putin has spoken about a tunnel and, according to the report, "Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper reports that Putin has already had secret talks about the project with Washington."

This means that, with the already existing Chunnel, you could literally drive from New York to London. How cool is that? (Russia Today, via reddit)
