The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 3/3/08

Bush clears brush
Torn between leading a nation and gardening

-Headline of the day-
"452."

That's the number of days President Bush has spent at his horseless and cattleless "ranch" in Crawford, TX. According to the report, "His stay there this past weekend with the the Danish prime minister marked Bush’s 70th visit as president."

This beats out the previous "on vacation" record held by Ronald Reagan, who took a mere 335 days off -- despite being really, really old.

Asked for comment, President Bush told reporters, "That brush ain't gonna clear itself." (Think Progress)

-If you're a woman, you're dumb-
At least, that's Charlotte Allen's opinion, written in WaPo under the title, "We Scream, We Swoon. How Dumb Can We Get?" Allen calls women "the stupid sex" and tells us, "Women 'are only children of a larger growth,' wrote the 18th-century Earl of Chesterfield." Then she asks, "Could he have been right?"

If you're using yourself as a model Charlie, I can see how you'd come to that conclusion. The blog Feministing points out a few unfortunate facts about poor Charlotte:

Charlotte Allen - a professional woman-hating hack from the Independent Women's Forum who has also oh-so-bravely attacked transgender rights, said that the answer to women's potential financial woes is marriage, and suggested that Hurricane Katrina might have been "the best thing" to happen to New Orleans which is full of "whiners...chisel[ing] us taxpayers" out of money - has outdone herself in an article that is all about what dumb fucks women are.

Just an aside -- is there some requirement that all right wing loons have to attack Katrina victims?

Anyhoo, Charlie goes on to tell us that she considers herself an idiot; "I am perfectly willing to admit that I myself am a classic case of female mental deficiencies. I can't add 2 and 2 (well, I can, but then what?). I don't even know how many pairs of shoes I own."

Fine, we'll ignore your opinion then.

Dumbass. (Washington Post, Feministing)
