The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 4/10/08

Huckabee... Superstar...

-Headline of the day-
"Huckabee signs with talent agency."

Former GOP prez candidate and current evolution-denying nutbag Mike Huckabee has signed with Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles. "Nothing has been decided,” says daughter Sarah of future projects “[it] probably won't be just one thing but maybe several different things. Just exploring options right now."

Jonathan Stein at MoJo Blog points us to a curious website that suggests that something has been decided. MikeHuckabee, com is just a countdown clock. At this writing, it's at four days, nineteen hours, and change. Apparently, we don't have long to wait for the second coming of Mike.

I'm hoping he takes a shot at jumping the Snake River Canyon in a rocket-powered motorcycle. Evel Knievel may have failed, but he didn't have Jesus with him. (CNN)

-Follow up-
Earlier this week, I reported that on-air personality Randi Rhodes had been suspended by Air America Radio for a standup routine about Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro that included the words "fucking," "whore," and "asshole." I didn't get the joke then; I still don't.

Now Randi's gone. According to an AAR press release, she quit.

Last week Air America suspended Randi Rhodes for abusive, obscene language at a recent public appearance in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.

Air America Media was informed last night by Ms. Rhodes that she has chosen to terminate her employment with the company. We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America.

We will soon announce exciting new talent and programming that will accelerate Air America's growth in the future.

Don't you love the corporate-speak about "exciting new talent" that will "accelerate Air America's growth" there at the end? All it needs is the words "paradigm" and "incentivized."

Anyhoo, I doubt she quit without someplace to land, so if you're a fan, you should at least be able to get a podcast. For myself, the "exciting new talent" part is bad news -- I would've hoped for Mark Maron coming back. I love a good existential shaggy dog story.

Bring back the funny, AAR! (Raw Story)

-Rounding out the talent trifecta-
The CBS reality/game show Secret Talents of the Stars has been cancelled after one episode. Too bad -- it sounded awful. We're talking William Shatner's talk-singing thing awful. Pamela Anderson dancing, Country singer Clint Black doing standup, Star Trek alum George Takei singing country, figure skater Sasha Cohen as a contortionist...

Sounds like a real car crash; horrific, yet fascinating. I'm both glad and sorry I missed it. (BroadcastNewsroom)
