The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 5/14/08

Bush carrying golf clubs
Most people carry their clubs in bags

-He won't have to wait long-
The common wisdom is that President Bush has made no personal sacrifices for his invasion and occupation of Iraq. But Dubya sets the record straight, in an interview with Politico's Mike Allen:

"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," Bush said. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."

That's right, he's given up golf. And you never even see him cry about it. What a rock. Some families give up future decades with their loved ones, Bush gives up a few more months on the links.

That seems even.

Still, I wonder where Bush could've gotten the idea that playing golf makes him seem like a smug, uncaring asshole?

Yeah, that's a real stumper. (Politico)

-Headline of the day-
"About That 'Dems Must Win West Virginia' Argument..."

Many of Clinton's argument seem to hinge on weird electoral superstitions. She's been arguing that "no Democrat has won the White House without winning West Virginia since 1916." That's not exactly a great argument, since Jonathan Stein points out that "No Democrat has won the White House without winning Minnesota since 1912. Obama won Minnesota by 34 points."

In fact, since Clinton's argument seems to be that something that hasn't happened lately can't ever happen, let's take it to its logical extreme. No woman has been elected president, no black has been elected president, and no one as old as John McCain has been elected president.

Therefore, we won't have a president in 2009. Nobody can possibly win. It's just science. (MoJo Blog)

-Guess who?-
According to the report, "The Obama campaign has announced a 'major national endorsement' for a rally tonight at 7pm in Michigan." I'm guessing that's 7 eastern (the time zone for most of Michigan), but you never know. I wish they'd be more specific on these points.

Anyhoo, some speculation is that it's former dem candidate John Edwards, others believe it'll be Michigan Sen. Carl Levin.

Not that it matters, Hillary's already established that no one can possibly become president in this election. History and logic tell us that.

UPDATE: About a second after I published this on my blog, Obama confirmed it was Edwards. Again, it doesn't matter -- Hillary's logic tells us that ungoverned chaos is our inevitable future. (Huffington Post)
