The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 5/15/08

Edwards and Obama
Like getting a visit from Ed McMahon

-Headline of the day-
"Edwards endorsement pays off for Obama."

I guess that was pretty much the idea. But boy, has it paid off. Obama's gained 19 delegates. According to the report, "Obama is now just 135 delegates shy of the number needed to clinch" the nomination. In addition, Obama gained the endorsement of the United Steelworkers -- a group that had originally endorsed Edwards. He also picked up the endorsement of Awais Khaleel, a superdelegate attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Edwards' endorsement also comes with a free order of hash browns at any participating Denny's, Scotchguard stain protection, and a year's supply of Eskimo Pies.

Not that all the movement was toward Obama, however. Clinton got superdel Vicki Harwell of Tennessee.

So there's that. (AP)

-Bonus HotD-
"Conyers: ‘Someone’s got to kick Rove’s ass.’"

House Judiciary committee Chairman John Conyers was overhead saying, "We’re closing in on Rove. Someone’s got to kick his ass," on the House floor. See, Karl Rove's resisting a subpoena to appear before the committee regarding the framing and imprisoning of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman for political reasons, among many, many other charges.

"We’ll do what any self-respecting committee would do," Conyers later clarified. "We’d hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested."

For the record, I think the second option's a real good idea. (Think Progress)

-Get them while they're hot-
The California State Supreme Court found that a ban on same sex marriage was unconstitutional today. This makes that abomination in the eyes of th'Lawd legal as of right now. The state is busy preparing licenses to meet expected demand. But moves are already underway to amend the state's constitution to make such laws constitutional.

"These out-of-touch California judges will not have the last word on marriage," said Brian Brown, head of the National Organization for Marriage California. "California voters will."

So, if you're in California and you're inclined to tear apart America's moral fiber by destroying the institution of marriage and making the little baby Jesus cry, you'd better get a move on.

And congratulations. Save me some cake. (Reuters)
