The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 9/17/08

Palin at RNC
The world's most fabu hockey mom

-Headline of the day-
"Hockey mom outfit worth $2,500 -- just for the top."

Reg'lar everday hockey mom Sarah Palin's jacket at the Republican National Convention was a "shantung silk Valentino jacket... worth $2,500," a new report in the New York Post reveals.

The report goes on, "Insiders tell Page Six Palin has a secretive circle of stylists who dress her for events... For her big speech in St. Paul, where she accepted the GOP's vice-presidential nod, this fashion-conscious team encouraged the Alaska governor to splurge on a $2,500 jacket from Saks Fifth Avenue designed by Valentino Garavani."

Wait a second, a "secretive circle of stylists?" Holy crap, do they have to take an oath? Remember when the right made fun of John Edwards for blowing 400 bucks on a haircut? Maybe he should've relied on a secret cabal of barbers.

In fact, maybe everyone in the Republican party should've as well. Earlier, Vanity Fair reported that the outfit Cindy McCain wore made Palin's Garavini jacket look like a pickle barrel with suspenders. Her outfit was worth more than $300,000 -- yeah, that's meant to have five zeroes. Laura Bush -- that humble country school marm -- split the middle with an outfit worth between $3,425 and $4,325.

Kinda makes Edwards' haircut look like a reasonable deal, doesn't it? But then again, I wouldn't know about what reg'lar ol' folks pay for clothing, since I'm a liberal elitist. I think the average person shops at the local Farm'n'Barn, like I do.

Who knew that simple country folk shopped at Saks?

Not me, because I'm a pointy-headed, arugula-eatin', liberal elitist. You can spot us by our tell-tale Wrangler jeans and tractor company baseball caps. (Raw Story)

-Not the best choice of words-
When John McCain told Americans that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong," he probably didn't mean to nearly quote Herbert Hoover, the president who tried to spin away the Great Depression.

"The fundamental business of the country, that is the production and distribution of commodities, is on a sound and prosperous basis," Hoover said on the day of the the crash that started the whole thing -- otherwise known as Black Thursday.

Allow me to nearly quote the president following Hoover, "We have nothing to fear, but McCain himself." (Think Progress)

-Bonus HotD-
"Bush can only be seen in Obama’s ads."

A new study shows that George W. Bush only shows up in Obama's ads, not McSame's.

Does anybody actually wonder why that is? (The Hill)
