The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 10/27/08

Stereotypical UFO alien
Wisconsin AG JB Van Hollen

-Headline of the day-
"Wisconsin attorney: GOP's mass voter fraud theory as likely as alien abduction."

You might have heard of Wisconsin Attorney General JB Van Hollen's attempt to throw out thousands of new voter registrations before the elections. His weak lawsuit has resulted in the the case being thrown out by a Wisconsin court. Since then, Van Hollen has exposed himself as a complete GOP tool and general ass, appearing on CNN to insist that "some people are registered who are fictitious."

The question, of course, is whether thousands of those people are fictitious. Representing the other side of the argument is the attorney for Wisconsin's Election Board, Lester Pines, who says, "I compare the possibility of massive vote fraud in Wisconsin to the same likelihood as alien abduction."

Here's the thing, Wisconsin elections reflect Wisconsin polling. If there were widespread voter registration fraud, the election results and the polling wouldn't match up, would it? Obama's going to take the Badger state by 13%.

I've got a deal for you JB. How about if Obama loses, you go ahead and freak out? If he does what every poll says he will and wins, you shut the hell up about this crackpot conspiracy theory. Deal?

Yeah, I didn't think so. Here's hoping we can recall your crooked ass. (Raw Story, with video)

-[Super-awesome] headline of the day-
"Breaking: Ted Stevens found guilty on all seven counts."

Speaking of crooked jerks, Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is busted with a capital B-U-S-T-E-D as a jury delivers guilty verdicts on all seven counts of corruption charges. According to AP, Stevens “faces up to five years in prison on each count, but under federal sentencing guidelines, he would likely receive much less prison time, if any.”

They really missed the chance at a better headline though; "Ted Stevens' Political Career Goes Down a Series of Tubes."

I couldn't figure out how to get a "big truck" into that headline. Sorry. (Think Progress)

-Sarah the Red-
Wait a second, who's the socialist here?

Sarah Palin on Alaska's annual payout to residents; "[W]e’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs." And that wealth was $3,269 per resident, taken from oil companies and redistributed to Alaskans.

I hear she's secretly an Islamic terrorist, too. (New Yorker)
