Republican, making his Pledge to America
-Headline of the Day-
"House Republicans to Break Key Promise on Day 1."
Republicans hate runaway wasteful spending so much! And they're going to do something about it, believe you me -- just not as much as they said they were going to and not right away.
See, the problem is that the GOP overpromised to an insane degree, saying they'd cut spending by "at least $100 billion in the first year alone." Turns out that it's a bad idea to pull a big arbitrary number out of your butt. Especially when there's no plan and no math behind the claim. So, in true Republican fashion, they now magically never promised that. It was just like a figure of speech or something.
According to the report, "[A]ides say that the $100 billion figure was hypothetical, and that the objective is to get annual spending for programs other than those for the military, veterans and domestic security back to the levels of 2008, before Democrats approved stimulus spending to end the recession."
Of course, "at least $100 billion" isn't hypothetical at all. It's speculative, but only in one very specific direction. Worse, that exact figure is in their big Pledge to America thingy.
Maybe Republicans don't know what "hypothetical" means or maybe they think the people who vote for them don't. From what I know about GOP voters, my money's on the latter. (Political Animal)

Jon Stewart and The Daily Show are back. In this clip, Stewart looks at the campaign for the chair of the Republican National Committee, the serious nature of the debate, and the unequaled brilliance of the candidates. I don't envy Republican Party members, this is a really tough choice.

Yup, a real bunch of top flight intellects there. Looks like Republicans will be replacing Michael Steele with, if not Michael Steele himself, someone just like Michael Steele.
