The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 9/19/07

Jolly Roger
Palaver like a buccaneer, ye scurvy dogs!

-Avast and yar and keelhaul and crap like that!-
Today is officially "Talk Like a Pirate Day." Do your part, me Bucko. (TalkLIkeAPirate.com)

-I am an antichrist/I am an anarchist-
The Sex Pistols are getting together for a one-time gig to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their only album, Never Mind the Bullocks. A bunch of seminal punks who barely knew how to play their instruments, their single effort is widely considered one of the most influential rock albums in history. It will be rereleased at the same time. The reunion concert will be performed at London's Brixton Academy on Nov. 8.

Oddly, one of the band's most famous (or infamous) members, the late Sid Vicious, was a replacement bassist for original member Glen Matlock. So this will be a complete reunion of the band that recorded NMtB. Those planning on attending are advised to get pissed, destroy.

I'd urge the Pistols to talk like pirates today, but I'm pretty sure they are pirates -- or at least, damned close. (AP)

-Headline of the day-
"Someone Tries to Sell Belgium on EBay." Listed as "Belgium, a Kingdom in three parts," the european nation was briefly up for sale on the popular auction site. According to the report, "The odd ad was posted by one disgruntled Belgian in protest at his country's political crisis which reached a 100-day landmark Tuesday with no end in sight to the squabbling between Flemish and Walloon politicians."

The seller, Gerrit Six, said, "You almost have to throw rock through a window to get attention for Belgium." Or sell the whole damned country. He offered free delivery, but noted "that the country was coming secondhand and that potential buyers would have to take on over $300 billion." Despite this caveat, the high bid on the country was $14 million when the auction was pulled. I'm guessing the bidder wasn't good for it anyway. (AP)
