The Stuff I Didn't Get To -- 9/8/08

Nuclear explosion
Hallelujah!

-So, how crazy is she?-
Possibly very.

CNN's Jessica Yellin took a look at Sarah Palin's church, the Wasilla Assembly of God, and found that it "teaches that Alaska will be a shelter at the end of the world" and practices "speaking in tongues" -- a charismatic practice where church members basically babble nonsense like lunatics. Could be worse though, there's no evidence of snake handling.

According to the report, "A video produced by the church proclaims with apocalyptic imagery that 'God has a destiny for the state of Alaska!' and in another clip someone from the church affirms, 'I believe that Alaska's one of the refuge states.'" Weird how the Bible makes absolutely no mention of Alaska then, isn't it? That "apocalyptic imagery?" It's nuclear missiles taking out the rest of the nation. For the record, nuclear missiles aren't in the Bible either.

Some people would call this "prophecy," but sane people refer to it as "making shit up." (Raw Story, with video)

-How much does she know?-
Probably not much.

Speaking to voters in Colorado Springs, Palin told the crowd that lenders Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac have "gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers." The problem with that is that neither is taxpayer funded. They used to be, but that changed a little while back -- specifically, in 1968. Sarah Palin was about four at the time.

Hey, but who needs facts when you're pretty? (Huffington Post)

-He's still crazy too-
WaPo reporter Bob Woodward spoke to Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes last night and they had this exchange:

WOODWARD: [Bush] has a meeting at the Pentagon with a bunch of experts and he just said, ‘I don’t understand that the Iraqis are not appreciative of what we’ve done for them,’ namely liberated them.

PELLEY: But tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis have been killed in the invasion and through the occupation. He didn’t understand why they might be a little ungrateful about what had occurred to them?

WOODWARD: His beacon is liberation. He thinks we’ve done this magnificent thing for them. I think he still holds to that position.

As always when you're talking about George W. Bush, your options are "crazy," "stupid," or "all of the above."

I vote for the last choice. (Think Progress)
