Stories to Watch: 9/9/11

Dana Milbank found the reception of Republicans to President Obama's job speech insulting. Hard to take issue with that.

Meanwhile, the White House trying to head off the entirely predictable cherrypicking approach to passage of his jobs bill.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is a shameless liar -- which makes sense, since she's a 'bagger.

How badly does the State of Wisconsin want state employees to keep the existence of free voter IDs a secret? So badly that one state employee was fired for emailing that info. Anyone who thinks this isn't about voter suppression is an idiot.

Rep. Paul Ryan is a jackass
.

Newt Gingrich doesn't seem to understand that his campaign for the GOP nomination died weeks -- if not months -- ago.

If John Boehner's scheduling pissiness was meant to keep people from watching Obama's jobs speech, he failed.

Oh for fuck's sake... "Astrotweeting?" Can't we have just one thing that shameless liars, soulless political ops, and lobbyists don't try to screw up?

Finally, Matt Drudge is a racist jerk. Don't read Drudge Report. Ever.

Stories to Watch: 5/19/11

Drinking coffee. Life is good. Now here's the news...

Remember when filibustering a judicial nominee was the worst thing ever? So five minutes ago...

Another "wave election" coming? A new USA Today/Gallup poll finds that only 28% of voters think most members of Congress deserve reelection, "tying the low point in the trend set last year."

"The anti-incumbent mood that led to sweeping changes in Congress after the 2010 elections persists, and the accompanying change in House leadership has not fundamentally altered the way Americans view Congress," Gallup reports. "Thus, incumbents remain vulnerable heading into the 2012 election cycle, though perhaps not quite as vulnerable as in 2010, given that voters are now more inclined to say their own member deserves re-election."

It's a long time until election day.

President Obama calls for Israel to return to their 1967 borders and give a Palestinian state some breathing room. Needless to say, this was the worst thing ever.

Chuck Grassley is a prick.

California Republican congress critter Devin Nunes thinks another recession -- or even depression -- is something that "could benefit us."

In related news, there is no reality that the determined conservative mind can't dismiss: Dana Milbank introduces us to the "default deniers."

Speaking of deniers, yet another GOP moron tries to tell townhall-goers that oil subsidies do not exist.

A brief moment of rightwing talk radio goodness. Newt to Limbaugh: "And by the way, it was not a reference to Paul Ryan. There was no reference to Paul Ryan in that answer." Limbaugh to Newt: "Well then what did you apologize to him about?" Logic was then taken out and shot.

Tim Pawlenty was an awful Governor of Minnesota.

Finally, be prepared for the zombie apocalypse.

Stories to Watch: 1/21/11

Man, it's freakin' cold here. Single digits. Luckily, there are really only a few days like this every year, but we always seem to remember the whole winter being this way. Now here's the news...

Fox News' Megyn Kelly claims that no foxbots ever compare anyone to Nazi. Media Matters calls bullshit on her.

Legalize democracy! Do it now.

Dana Milbank declares February "Palin-free" and asks people to pledge not to talk about her for a month. This seems like an invitation to America's favorite attention whore to do something outrageous. Facebook trollery ahead.

Boehner declares that banning federal funding of abortion -- which, for good or ill is already illegal -- is the House's "highest priority." Jobs? Meh...

Compromise is the word of the day, but House progressives warn Obama that cuts to Social Security are not on the table.

Mittens Romney knows his base is not the Tea Party.

What will the White House do about jobs? A blue ribbon panel. That always works so well.

Finally, GOP Rep. Paul Broun is really paranoid.
