NEWSFLASH: Rep. Joe Walsh was an asshole again

Raw Story:

In a debate stunt gone wrong on Tuesday night, incumbent Congressman Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) attacked his Democratic challenger, Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth, by showing a photo of Duckworth choosing her dress for the 2012 Democratic National Convention, which she neatly turned around by calling attention to her military service.

At the rambunctious debate in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, Walsh accused Duckworth of being a DC-Beltway insider candidate.

According to Talking Points Memo, Wash said, “And I think darn near everybody in this audience is sick and tired — and I’ll say with a smile — of Republicans and Democrats, elected officials, who seem to poll test every syllable of every word that they utter, because they’re so afraid of offending people and losing votes.  You’re seeing the perfect example of that up here on this stage. Tammy Duckworth will not say a thing that David Axelrod and her advisers won’t let her say.”

He then held up a photo of Duckworth picking out a dress in order to attack her for the apparent sin of wanting to wear something nice on national television.

“I was marching in a parade in Schaumburg (IL), Sunday, two days before the Democratic convention,” he said, “when Tammy Duckworth was on a stage down in Charlotte (NC) — if you can look at the picture — picking out a dress for her speech Tuesday night.”

Duckworth responded in her own statement, saying, “And yes, I do sometimes look at the clothes that I wear, but for most of my adult life, I’ve worn one color — it’s called camouflage.”

If Joe Walsh is anything, he’s a monument to just how tolerant people can be of assholes when their assholery is framed as “tough talk.” He is a man seemingly without any redeeming qualities. He’s a loudmouth, a bigot, a corporate tool, an intolerant censor, and — most infamously — a deadbeat dad. Take a stroll through his short public history here. Have Maalox handy, because he’s a nauseating man.

A PPP poll fielded in September showed Duckworth up 14-points over this fool. I guess you can only pretend assholery is hardheaded realism for so long.

Stories to Watch: 4/30/12

Actually a pretty slow news day. Kind of having to scrape the sides of the jar here. Anyway, here's the news...

Team Obama revives the "Party of No" messaging.

Breitbart's death, birtherism, and Joe Arpaio are now featured in a single conspiracy theory. That ought to save the wingnuts some time.

A Florida task force, handpicked by Gov. Rick Scott, comes back with recommendations for changes to the "Stand Your Ground" law. Not surprisingly, they don't amount to much more than PR. The law should be repealed entirely, not tweaked around the edges.

Rep. Joe Walsh, America's favorite deadbeat dad, continues to be a horse's ass.

For those of you keeping track of these sort of things, a mere $13 million will buy you the governor of Wisconsin.

A bigoted conservative meme dies: Muslims aren't fans of al Qaeda. The line will still wander around as a zombie though. That's what conservative memes do.

Finally, dems have Republicans on the ropes over this War on Women and they aren't letting up any time soon.

News Roundup for 11/4/11

Willias
You're free to worship any god, so long as it's Jesus

-Headline of the Day-
"KY GOPer: I’m Not Criticizing Hindus -- I’m Inviting Them To 'Love And Know Jesus.'"

It looks like Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear is going to win reelection in a walk. Not surprisingly, this bothers his Republican opponent somewhat. So State Senate President David Williams looked around for something -- anything -- to drag Beshear down.

He thought he found it when "Beshear attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, for a new factory run by FlexFilm, a company based in India that makes materials for packaging, printing, insulation and other purposes. The plant represents a $180 million investment, and is expected to create 250 jobs in Kentucky."

The groundbreaking including a Hindu ceremony called a bhoomi poojan and you can tell just from looking at the words that there ain't nothing Christian about it. It's got incense and people without shoes and god knows what-all, so Williams thought, "Gotcha!" and ran to the Lexington Herald-Leader. Beshear was caught in an act of "idolatry," offering "prayers to false gods."

"He’s there participating with Hindu priests, participating in a religious ceremony," Williams said. "They can say what they want to. He’s sitting down there with his legs crossed, participating in Hindu prayers with a dot on his forehead with incense burning around him. I don’t know what the man was thinking."

"If I’m a Christian, I don’t participate in Jewish prayers. I’m glad they do that," he dug deeper. "I don’t participate in Hindu prayers. I don’t participate in Muslim prayers. I don’t do that. To get down and get involved and participate in prayers to these polytheistic situations, where you have these Hindu gods that they are praying to, doesn’t appear to me to be in line with what a governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky ought to be doing... between his not being pro-life and his support for gambling and now getting down and doing Hindu prayers to these Hindu gods, I think his grandfathers wouldn’t be very pleased with Steve Beshear."

Turns out people thought this was a tad insensitive and what Williams thought was his big chance somehow turned into his latest fuckup. So he did the worst possible thing he could do in this situation; instead of just apologizing and letting it go, he decided to explain what he really meant.

Williams said he wasn't criticizing Hindus per se, he was just pointing out the obvious -- they practice the wrong religion. And so he invited them to "love and know Jesus."

With political chops like that, it's hard to understand how Williams is getting swamped. (Talking Points Memo)

Not too well... (McClatchy)

-Bonus HotD-
"Deadbeat Rep. Joe Walsh, Who Owes $100k In Child Support, Receives ‘Pro-Family’ Award From Family Research Council."

Cut FRC some slack here. They didn't specify which family Walsh is supposed to be "pro-." It's probably someone else's family entirely. (ThinkProgress)

Stories to Watch: 9/22/11

It's cool and dark and it looks like it's going to rain, but I'm jonesing for brats, so I'm firing up the grill. I dare the weather to turn on me. Now here's the news...

Rick Perry is caught on film being a secret Muslim terr'ist from Kenya plotting to overthrow the United States though communism. You wonder if that'll hurt him in the big debate tonight.

Bill Clinton speaks about the Troy Davis execution. Encapsulated, if you're in such a hurry to execute that you can't even be bothered to look a DNA evidence, you're doing it wrong. It's kind of important to be absolutely certain you've got the right guy.

John Boehner pretends that people in his caucus listen to him.

More evidence that Rick Perry's "Texas miracle" hurts more than helps; the vast, vast majority of all those jobs created in Texas went to undocumented immigrants.

Letting the conservative victim card cool off for a moment, Republican Rep. Joe Walsh plays the race card instead.

Rick Perry's Florida campaign co-chair thinks gays cause tornadoes. Remember, human-caused global warming is a ridiculous notion, but crazy-assed BS like this is serious thinking.

Deranged hobo Sarah Palin asks people if they have any spare change.

Finally, Mittens takes to twitter to prove he eats sandwiches. You think I'm kidding. I'm not.

Stories to Watch: 5/27/11

Florida Gov. Rick Scott may be the most unpopular governor in the nation. It's easy to see why.

Painted into a corner by House Republican's worship of Paul Ryan's Medicare scheme, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell finds some hostages to shoot -- and it's pretty much everybody.

Frankly, I wouldn't want to touch it either. Still, using an autopen to sign the extension of the PATRIOT Act into law doesn't really spare you the responsibility, President Obama. It's an awful dog of a law, it's everything you originally said you were against, and that's your name at the bottom.

I don't care what anyone else says, Charles Krauthammer is an idiot.

Our for sale elections just got a little more for sale.

Italian seismologists are to be tried for manslaughter for failing to predict an earthquake. You read that right and, yeah, it's just a stupid as you think it is.

Illinois GOP Rep. Joe Walsh is about to learn that saying, "There's nothing racist about this!" isn't the best way to hide an incredibly racist statement.

Finally, Senate GOP move to block a recess appointment of Elizabeth Warren to a consumer watchdog position. I want to be mad, but Democrats have done the same thing.
