Today’s tale of Second Amendment Heroism

Ruger pistol
St. Louis Post-Dispatch: A Missouri House staffer reportedly left a loaded gun in a public restroom in the state Capitol last week.

According to a Capitol Police incident report, a Kahr CM9 9mm pistol – later claimed by House Speaker Tim Jones’ legislative assistant Dave Evans – was found on top of the toilet paper dispenser in a men’s restroom in the Capitol basement Friday. The incident report states that the gun “was fully loaded with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.”

Capitol police returned the gun to Evans after Jones’ secretary Lisa Bondurant called to report that it was misplaced. The incident report states that Evans didn’t have paperwork for the gun with him, but he “offered a very detailed description of the weapon and the holster (and) was able to identify the weapon by the brand, caliber, color, size, the holster and the ammunition count and type that was in the weapon.”

Evans did not immediately respond to a call from the Post-Dispatch on Monday.
This incident can be traced back to 2011, when a law was passed that “allows Missouri legislators and their staffers to have guns in the Capitol if they have concealed gun permits” — I guess because the Missouri state capitol was gang-infested cesspool of crime at the time, where the stench of death hung heavy in the air and the specter of imminent destruction stalked your every step or something. I don’t know. I don’t pretend to understand the paranoid delusions involved in the average gun nuts’ decision-making process.

Anyway, the capitol is much safer now, because even if you don’t have a gun yourself, you can just find one lying around someplace if you need one — so maybe don’t bring the kids.

Stupidest. Publicity stunt. Ever.

KMIZ: Management at the Goodrich Capital 8 Theaters is defending what it calls a publicity stunt at the movie theaters this past weekend.

During the opening weekend of the latest ‘Iron Man’ movie, a man walked into the theater in full tactical gear and carrying a fake gun.

Jefferson City police and witnesses, however, are not pleased with the stunt and are questioning the theater’s logic after recent shootings in Aurora, Colo. and Newtown, Conn.

John Molock is a retired Army war veteran and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. He told ABC 17 News this most recent trip to the movies triggered memories he never wanted to relive.

“We had just finished watching Iron Man 3,” said Morlock. “We’re just getting into the car when I spotted a man in full assault gear, carrying what appeared to be a modified M-4 and 9 mm on his side.”

Morlock did not call police, but several other moviegoers did.
Police reacted by opening “an active shooter investigation.”

“Everything was in place, it’s the opening night of a superhero movie, it’s somebody walking in all-dark clothes, everything pointed to bad things about to happen,” said Jefferson City Police Capt. Doug Shoemaker. “There’s really no good that can come of this.”

Needless to say, theater management put the actor they hired at tremendous risk. He could easily have been shot by police.

Asked if he had any regrets, Capital 8 Theaters manager Bob Wilkins said, “No, my job is to entertain people.”

The company has since apologized for the incident.

Stories to Watch: 2/7/12

Once again, nothing much to say about what's happening around here. Pretty boring today. Now here's the news...

California's Prop. 8 banning marriage equality is ruled unconstitutional, so Mittens and Noodles shriek, "Judicial activism!" National Review's Maggie Gallagher surprises no one by playing the victim card. Expect more big piles of stupid from the right in coming days.

Another poll shows Romney slipping, with Obama opening up a lead. Meanwhile, Rick Santorum may enjoy a good night in the GOP primary fight.

One of those possible wins would be meaningless, however, as the Missouri GOP can't get their act together.

Meanwhile, Mittens says the contests tonight aren't all that important and he probably won't win, so please media, pay them no never mind.

This could turn out to be marvelously entertaining: Occupy CPAC! What happens when a bunch of protesters disrupt a gathering of paranoid sociopaths barely tethered to reality? Let's watch and see.

America acquires Extreme Marshmallow Cannon technology. Our enemies tremble.

A former aide to embattled Wisconsin Gov. Walker pleads guilty to campaigning on the public's time.

Finally, Alabama Republicans try to deal with the aftermath of their own disastrous anti-immigration law.

Obama Makes Gains in Battlegrounds

clipped from politicalwire.com

The latest CNN/Time polls in five crucial battleground states suggest that Sen. Barack Obama is making some major gains over rival Sen. John McCain.

Florida: Obama 51%, McCain 47%

Minnesota: Obama 54%, McCain 43%

Missouri: Obama 49%, McCain 48%

Nevada: Obama 51%, McCain 47%

Virginia: Obama 53%, McCain 44%
A Quinnipiac poll released earlier today shows Obama ahead in the three big battleground states: Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
McCain's constant stunt-politicking fails to pay off. In fact, it has the opposite of the desired effect. Can Sarah Palin pull this out of the dumper tomorrow night?

You're kidding, right?
