I finally relocated the ferns I wanted to get to last week. We'll see how they do. Now here's the news...
It's International Workers Day, but in true conservative fashion, the right is trying to conflate labor and communism by pushing for the day to be named the "Victims of Communism Day." Let's just forget about the Gdańsk shipbuilders' union that began the Soviet Union's decline, OK? Remembering labor as a force for freedom isn't politically correct.
Chris Christie comes to Wisconsin to try to save Scott Walker's ass. He asks Wisconsin voters a peculiar question: "America is going to find out the answer to what is more powerful; the money or the special interests from Washington, D.C.?" Which are you saying Walker represents? Because they both sound bad.
The anarchist "black bloc" continue to fuck things up for legit protesters. Twice.
Speaking of anarchists, the right is having a field day over this, but wouldn't "we hate government" anarchists be their guys?
Healthcare reform opponent Sen. Scott Brown is a hypocrite.
Pres. Obama sneaks out of Washington to visit troops in Afghanistan and sign a strategic partnership agreement with Afghanistan. Somehow, this becomes the worst thing ever.
For the eight billionth time, neither Mitt Romney nor any other Republican would've sent Navy Seals into Pakistan to kill Bin Laden. In fact, they wouldn't shut up about how they'd never do that.
Finally, the National Review is finally open about their bigotry.

News Roundup for 8/18/11
Texas Governor Rick Perry
-Headline of the Day-
"Rick Perry Can't Defend His Claim That Social Security Is Unconstitutional Because He's 'Got A Big Mouthful.'"
Mouthful of what? If you guess BS, you're only half right. His mouth was also full of what he called "pop ups" -- despite the fact that the restaurant he was campaigning at was called "Popovers on the Square."
At the New Hampshire stop, Perry learned that the state isn't much like Texas and, if you say something insane, they're not going to let it slide. Despite having claimed in the past that Social Security is unconstitutional, Perry's trying to have it both ways by pretending to be committed to protecting it -- at least, for the generation currently collecting.
Anyway, protesters in New Hampshire weren't buying it and asked him to explain his interesting constitutional theory. it was at this point that Perry displayed his astounding rhetorical skills; "I don't think I..." he said. "I'm sorry, you must have..."
Cleared that right up, huh? Having reached the limit of his ability to string words together, Perry "stuffed a generous piece of popover in his mouth." Why lookie there! I'd surely love to answer you folks' question, but I went and jammed my skull plum full of puff pastries. Reckon I'll have to get back to you on that. Y'all have a good day and cowboy boots sixshooter horseshoes yeehaw!
Perry then rushed out, impressing onlookers with his Three Stooges imitation as he "tripped over one of the women standing at his side pressing him on Social Security."
This is what passes for presidential timber on the right these days. (ThinkProgress)

Hey kids, it's a big scary world with lots of bad things happening and the press will cover it all -- after the elections!

News Roundup for 2/28/11

Our Lord and Savior
-Headline of the day-
"Former GOP Sen. Bennett: Reagan Held Views That Were 'Absolutely Anathema' To The Tea Party."
In an interview with Fox's Greta Von Sustersomething, former Utah Senator Bob Bennett came right out and called Ronald Reagan a terr'ist-sympathizing commie. America is ashamed of him, obviously.
"Ronald Reagan would probably not recognize the description of Ronald Reagan that is coming out of a lot of the tea party blogs," Bennett said -- then said that Reagan did stuff like compromise. If you're not outraged by that, then you don't know that "compromise" is code for APPEASEMENT!!
Remember how Reagan was reelected to 12 consecutive terms with 340% of the vote? Remember how he killed Mikhail Gorbachev with his bare hands, then came home to beat Tip O'Neil into submission with Gorbachev's skull? Remember how he brought down the Soviet Union by crashing a demolition derby car into the Berlin Wall, causing it to crumble?
Man, it's like all that stuff never even happened. (ThinkProgress, with video)
-"I LOVE ME!"-
It's starting to look a lot like a large chunk of Sarah Palin's dwindling popularity comes from some lady named "Sarah Palin." Turns out Sarah had a second Facebook account for "Lou Sarah" -- which is the most imaginative name ever -- and now it's looking like she's got a second twitter account.
What are these accounts for? Why, to praise Sarah Palin, of course. (Wonkette)
-Bonus HotD-
"Obama gives props to Romney on health care."
Worst news Mittens has gotten all day. (CNN)

Got out and blew off the walk and driveway today. There wasn't much, but I wasn't in the mood to deal with a shovel, so internal combustion it was. When I got inside though, I noticed I was out of breath (the snowblower's not power-assist) and it got me to wondering, was using it really any easier? Oh well, it didn't take as long, so I'll take it as a win. Now here's the news...
It's official, the Illinois Supreme Court puts Rahm Emanuel back on the Chicago mayoral ballot. Early voting begins Monday, so right under the wire.
Biden's communications secretary, Jay Carney, will replace Gibbs as press secretary.
Mike Pence rules out a prez run. Don't worry though, King of the Wingnuts Jim DeMint may take a whack at it.
Sarah Palin says says President Obama "needs to remember that, uh, what happened back then with the communist U.S.S.R. and their victory in that race to space." What happened? Sputnik cost so much money "that it resulted in the inevitable collapse of the Soviet Union." Looks like Sarah and Shelly Bachmann had the same history professor. They should ask for their money back. Also, don't miss a really painful metaphor involving donuts.
Mark Sanford and Evita are at it again. Henceforth, he's barred from using the phrase "sanctity of marriage" ever again.
It's stuff like this that leads me to conclude that Harry Reid is just awful.
Finally, the CBO chief reiterates what the right doesn't want to hear: the healthcare reform law will reduce the deficit.
