"Cuomo caves to protesters, will hike taxes on rich New Yorkers."
Those Occupy Wall Street commies are never going to accomplish anything, because they don't have a message and they're living outside like hobos and they're screwing around with drum circles and... Oh look, they accomplished something!
According to the report, "After facing repeated protests over his resistance to raising taxes on wealthy New Yorkers, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo relented on Tuesday, striking a deal with legislators that will boost state revenues by $1.9 billion while simultaneously dropping the middle class tax rate to the lowest it has been in 58 years."
"New York citizens earning $20,000 per year or more are currently taxed at a rate of 6.85 percent, as are married couples earning more than $40,000 per year," the report continues. "The new tax brackets would drop tax rates for the lowest incomes to 6.45 percent, while increasing the rates for higher earners. Couples with incomes between $150,000 and $300,000 will pay 6.65 percent; households that earn $300,000 to $2 million will pay 6.85 percent; and incomes over $2 million will be taxed at 8.82 percent..."

Armed and dangerous -- no, not the cops...

"City Claims Occupy Wall Street Protesters Were Stockpiling Weapons, Fights Court Order To Reopen Park."
Them Occupy Wall Street commies got big piles of guns and stuff!
Wait, no. According to the City of New York, currently fighting a legal battle to declare Zuccatti Park a free-speech-free zone, are getting a little creative in their defense. Deputy Mayor Cas Holloway "filed a motion on behalf of the city today opposing a court order requiring the NYPD to allow Occupy Wall Street demonstrators back into Zuccotti Park."
In that motion, Holloway wrote, "It was our understanding that the protesters may have had a significant number of items that could potentially be used as weapons." For the record, that could be pretty much anything. The biggest threat to public safety cited were "cardboard tubes with metal pipes inside," which I guess are more weapony than just metal pipes. Other evidence of a heavily armed protesters includes the aftermath of an October 1st march across the Brooklyn Bridge, where authorities reportedly found "knives, mace and hypodermic needles were observed discarded on the roadway."
OK, I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on that one. One, who discards a knife? Those things cost money. And cops have been macing protesters, not the other way around. Finally, hypodermic needles? Yeah, that's my weapon of choice, right up there with thumbtacks -- it's New York, those are called "litter." I'm surprised they didn't include used condoms in that list of "weaponry."
There's a lesson to be learned here, of course. If you're going to stockpile weapons (or be accused of it) make sure they're guns.
When the cops come to take your guns away, the NRA will have a hissy. Guaranteed. (Gothamist)

Be prepare for a political shitstorm of biblical proportions; a far-left wing activist obtains emails from the Tea Party, then shares them with the FBI so the government can keep tabs on the movement. Oh wait, I read that wrong -- a far-right wing activist got leaked documents about Occupy Wall Street to the feds. Well, then that's just fine. Move along. Nothing to see here.
Police arrest protesters in an NYC Citibank for "trespassing." Protesters say they were trying to close their accounts and were arrested for it. Citibank says "Only one person asked to close an account and was accommodated." Neither the trespassing charge nor Citibank's statement account for video of a bank customer being arrested outside Citibank -- apparently her crime was in talking to protesters holding cameras.
Herman Cain, Koch addict.
Unsurprisingly, Mittens "Pink Slip" Romney is Wall Street's candidate of choice -- which explains why Obama's targeting Romney as a Wall Street shill.
Things do not look good on the climate front.
Fox & Friends continues to be the most ridiculous, brainless morning news circus out there.
Finally, mass arrests in Occupy Chicago protests.

Stories to Watch: 10/14/11
Got some stuff I need to do later and I'm running out of time right now, so tonight's going to be a shorty. Now here's the news...
Another day, another violent police action against the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Police and city governments should probably be aware that every incident like this is a PR coup for the movement. In other words, if you want them to go away, you're doing it wrong.
On the anti-Wall Street front; something's up. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner promises "dramatic enforcement actions" against financial criminals.
Josh Marshall detects a distinct shift away from deficits and toward jobs.
An appeals court blocks parts of Alabama's insane anti-immigration law.
Do regulations kill jobs? The answer is no.
Finally, the rapture preacher is back with a new date for the end of the world.

"Michael Bloomberg tells Occupy Wall Street protesters to lay off banks."
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has just about had it up to here with these darned protesters on Wall Street. Mike wonders why they gotta pick on the banks, instead of protesting the government -- like decent 'baggers do. Unfortunately, his reasoning is just one big ol' sack-o-stupid.
"Everyone’s got a thing they want to protest, some of which is not realistic," Bloomberg said during his weekly radio show Let's Rap With Da Mair. "And if you focus for example on driving the banks out of New York City, you know those are our jobs... You can’t have it both ways: If you want jobs you have to assist companies and give them confidence to go and hire people."
Because that's what the protesters want, don't let the total lack of any "BANKS GET THE HELL OUT OF NYC!" signs or anyone saying anything like that fool you. The whole thing is about driving those danged banks to New Jersey.
Mike also had some words for labor unions that have thrown their support behind the protests, telling them "their salaries come from -- are paid by -- some of the people they’re trying to vilify." He'd have a point, except labor unions pretty much exist to hold employers accountable. Try using that argument on a picket line sometime Mayor, then enjoy all the open-mouthed "WTF, are you stupid?" stares you get.
"We’re just supposed to sit there and be silent while people get hurt?" asks Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers. "Is that what the mayor’s rationale is?"
Apparently so. Now go home, put on a three-cornered hat and pantaloons, and protest Obama -- like a normal person.
Did I mention that Micheal Bloomberg is a gazillion-dollar Wall Street type? I probably should have. (Politico)

Stories to Watch: 10/3/11
Polling shows that most people expect Barack Obama to lose reelection. I look at the GOP field and I'm a lot less convinced. Still, polling influences polling, so don't write it off.
How to talk to news media -- in particular, Fox News. If you're planning to ever protest anything, watch this and see how it's done.
The Transportation Workers Union in NYC will go to court "in hopes of blocking New York City from forcing bus drivers to transport any Occupy Wall Street protesters after the New York police department commandeered at least three buses to take many of the 700 protesters off the Brooklyn Bridge this weekend." The report says this will happen today, but no update and it's getting late.
Bob Inglis argues at Bloomberg that dealing with global warming is the conservative thing to do. It's a pretty solid argument, but I had a lot of trouble getting past this first paragraph: "Normally, the country can count on conservatives to deal in facts. We base policies on science, not sentiment, we insist on people being accountable for their actions, and we maintain that markets, not mandates, are the path to prosperity." Don't worry, you'll stop laughing eventually.
Evidence that straw polls don't mean shit; after Herman Cain wins a straw poll in Florida, an actual poll shows Mittens Romney has him by four points in the state. Bonus fun; Gingrich beats out Perry.
"Class warfare" ain't what it used to be. The gazillionaires complaining about this can officially be called "whiners."
Finally, Sarah Palin is nobody.

Probably doesn't hate gays

"Irish Minister Criticizes NYC St. Pat's Parade."
Who's more Irish than New York City? Boston and Ireland, that's who. And it was some Irish guy who was hating on the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in NYC yesterday.
According to the report, "Irish foreign minister Eamon Gilmore criticized the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade for its ban on LGBT groups, saying, 'Exclusion is not an Irish thing.'"
"What these parades are about is a celebration of Ireland and Irishness," he told the Irish-American outlet Irish Voice. "I think they need to celebrate Ireland as it is, not as people imagine it. Equality is very much the center of who we are in our identity in Ireland."
So less about the guy on the Lucky Charms box and more about actual Ireland. Got it. As a side note, there's absolutely no evidence that the guy on the Lucky Charms box hates gays either. (The Advocate)
